First step in acquiring a Canadian Firearms licence (PAL).

First-time licence applicants must pass the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) before applying for a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL). In-class instruction time will be immediately followed by written and practical testing.

Anyone 12 years or older can take CFSC. Under 12 years of age can also take the course, but only for educational purposes. They will not do the written or practical exams. To get a Minor's Licence to borrow and use non-restricted firearms, the minor must be between 12 and 17 years old.

Note: Firearms Acquisition Certificates (FAC) issued under the former law were considered to licences. They are expired. You must now get a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL).
