Canadian Firearms Safety Course

Anyone wishing to obtain firearms in Canada must have a valid Possession & Acquisition Licence (PAL).

Firearms Acquisition Certificate (FAC) issued under the former law were licences. They are expired. You must now get a PAL.

We offer the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) and Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) at our training center in Edmonton, Alberta. Both are one day courses.

Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) is 8 hours instruction time. Written & Practical testing immediately follows CFSC instruction time.

Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) is up to 6 hours instruction time. Written & Practical testing immediately follows CRFSC instruction time.

CFSC and CRFSC cannot be done in one day. However, both courses can be completed back to back over the same weekend.


CFSC (Non-Restricted) & CRFSC (Restricted) are Firearms Safety Courses presented by veteran instructors where you learn:

  • Evolution of firearms, major parts, types and actions

  • Basic firearms safety practices

  • Ammunition

  • Operating firearm actions

  • Safe handling and carry procedures

  • Firing techniques and procedures

  • Care of firearms

  • Responsibilities of the firearms owner/user

  • Safe storage, display, transportation and handling of firearms

We keep class sizes small to give you plenty of 1-on-1 time with our instructors.

Courses are designed to provide you with the knowledge and confidence to succeed.

What do I need to know?

Before the Class:

  • Study, Study, Study! Download the course manual: Canadian Safety Firearms Course Handbook

  • Write down any questions . Our instructors will be sure to answer them during class.

  • Memorize ACTS and PROVE (see below).

Day of Class:

  • Students 18 years of age or older MUST bring valid Government issued Photo ID (i.e.: Passport, Drivers Licence or Provincial ID Card).

  • For students under 18 years of age ONLY, valid Government issued ID can be one of the following: Passport, Driver's Licence (Learner's Permit), Provincial ID Card, Provincial Health Care Card, Birth Certificate, SIN, Citizenship Certificate, Landed Immigrant Document. Note: Photo ID is preferred for students under 18.

  • Be prepared to learn and come to class well rested.

  • Please arrive at 8:45am. All courses start at 9:00am sharp.

  • You will receive professional and knowledgeable in-class training.

  • You will receive lots of hands on practice with safely decommissioned firearms.

  • After completing in-class instruction, you will immediately do written knowledge and practical handling tests.


After the Class:

  • Get involved. Become an ambassador for the sport.

  • Join a shooting range. Develop and improve your skills.

  • Mentor others in safe, lawful handing of firearms.

  • Become a target shooter. Enter competitions.

  • Take the Hunter Education course. Become an ethical hunter.

Prior to class, study ACTS and PROVE:

  • Assume every firearm is loaded

  • Control muzzle direction at all times

  • Trigger finger must be kept off trigger and out of trigger guard

  • See firearm is unloaded - PROVE it safe

  • Point firearm in safest available direction

  • Remove ammunition

  • Observe chamber

  • Verify feed path

  • Examine bore
